LEG4EVSE

LEG4EVSE (Metrology to support legislation for electric vehicle supply equipment) is a European research and development project aimed at developing metrological infrastructure for existing and future DC charging systems. In particular, the new megawatt chargers that are starting to appear require test equipment capable of handling higher power levels with satisfactory traceability. The project is funded through the European Partnership on Metrology and started in July 2026, with a duration of three years.

What is the project about?

LEG4EVSE will address three main challenges:

  • Development of equipment and methods for accurate calibration of field equipment for measuring real and phantom power in DC charging systems.
  • Development of efficient and reliable procedures for field measurement of real and phantom power in DC charging systems.
  • Development of test methods and test equipment for megawatt DC charging systems.

The project develops common European measurement methods, test setups, and guidelines to be used by authorities, test laboratories, charging operators, and manufacturers.

The role of Justervesenet in LEG4EVSE

Justervesenet participates in the project as the national metrology institute and as a public authority within legal metrology. Our main task is to help ensure that the solutions developed in the project:

  • are suitable for use in regulation
  • can be applied in practical market surveillance and verification
  • support fair trade and consumer trust

Results with societal impact

LEG4EVSE will contribute to a foundation for:

  • Harmonised European requirements for energy measurement in EV charging
  • More efficient and verifiable inspections of charging stations
  • Increased consumer confidence that they are paying for the correct amount of energy delivered
  • Better framework conditions for the continued expansion of EV infrastructure in Europe

For Justervesenet, the project will help strengthen our work on more effective and better tailored supervisory activities, as well as more adapted services for the industry.
