What Is the Project About?
Met4EVCS addresses three main challenges:
- Measurement accuracy and energy losses in both AC and DC charging
- Real operating conditions in the power grid, such as disturbances, power quality, and varying impedance
- The need for practical and traceable methods for both laboratory testing and on-site inspection
The project develops common European measurement methods, test setups, and guidelines to be used by authorities, test laboratories, charging operators, and manufacturers.
Justervesenet’s Role in Met4EVCS
Justervesenet participates in the project as the national metrology institute and as an authority within legal metrology. Our main task is to help ensure that the solutions developed in the project:
- are suitable for regulatory use
- can be applied in practical market surveillance and verification
- support fair trade and consumer trust
More specifically, Justervesenet contributes by:
- Developing and testing procedures for verifying energy measurement in charging stations, for both AC and DC charging
- Taking part in field measurements and on-site verification to ensure that the methods work under realistic operating conditions
- Contributing to the project’s protocols and guidelines for measurement, uncertainty evaluation, and traceability
- Playing an active role in ensuring alignment between project results and international regulatory work, in particular related to:
- OIML (International Organization of Legal Metrology)
- WELMEC (European Cooperation in Legal Metrology)
Justervesenet’s experience as a notified body and our role in standardisation and regulatory work place us in a strong position to bridge research and regulation.
Results with Societal Impact
Through Met4EVCS, the foundation is laid for:
- Harmonised European requirements for energy measurement in electric vehicle charging
- More efficient and verifiable inspections of charging stations
- Increased consumer trust that they are paying for the correct amount of energy delivered
- Better framework conditions for the continued rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Europe
For Justervesenet, the project helps strengthen our work on future-oriented legal metrology, adapted to new forms of energy and digital solutions.
