Stopwatch

Instruments being calibrated

• Digital and analog stopwatches
• Electronic timers

Measurement range – time interval

• Typically: 1 s to 24 hours
(depending on the instrument specifications)

Measurement uncertainty

• Relative uncertainty: ± 0.01%
(depends on the measurement range and instrument type)

Method

Calibration is performed by comparing the stopwatch’s measurement with a traceable reference time from a precise time standard.

The method may include:
• Direct comparison: Start/stop against a reference clock
• Automated test: Electronic signal simulating start/stop actions

Traceability is ensured to national and international time standards.
