Dew-point

Instruments Being Calibrated

  • Dew point hygrometer with PC connection and software or display
  • Dew point transmitter, measurement output: current 4–20 mA or voltage 0–10 V

Measurement range and traceability

  • –80 °C fp/dp to 20 °C dp using a primary dew point generator with an SPRT that is traceably calibrated to the Norwegian Metrology Service’s realization of ITS‑90
  • 1 °C dp to 65 °C dp using a dew point generator and comparison against a dew‑point mirror that is traceably calibrated with the Norwegian Metrology Service’s primary dew point generator, or alternatively traceable to another National Metrology Institute

Measurement uncertainty

The Norwegian Metrology Service’s accepted measurement capability as specified in an international agreement under the Metre Convention.

  • In the range 50 °C to 0 °C, the measurement uncertainty is U = 0.3 °C
  • In the range 0 °C to 20 °C, the measurement uncertainty is U = 0.2 °C
  • The measurement uncertainty for other dew‑point measurement ranges is not specified in an international agreement

Method

Purified air is used as the medium. Instruments for calibration either have a tube connection or are placed inside a measurement chamber.

  • For –80 °C fp/dp to 20 °C dp using a primary dew point generator, the traceable airflow is directed to the instrument being calibrated
  • For 1 °C dp to 65 °C dp using a dew point generator, the generated airflow is directed to the instrument being calibrated and compared against a traceable dew‑point mirror. If needed, the instrument can be placed in a temperature‑controlled climatic chamber
