Classified and unclassified weights

The Norwegian Metrology Service offers calibration of weights in accuracy classes E2, F1 and F2 with masses from 1 mg to 50 kg, in accuracy classes M1, M2 and M3 with masses from 1 mg to 500 kg, and unclassified weights with masses from 1 mg to 500 kg.

Our department of National Laboratory (NL) is responsible for performing weight calibrations. All formal requirements for traceability in measurements related to accreditation or certification are fulfilled when using our calibration services.

Categorisation

Accuracy class Nominal mass Measurement uncertainty (k = 2)

E2, F1 and F2 1 mg – 50 kg 1/5 of the tolerance
M1, M2 og M3 1 mg – 500 kg 1/3 of the tolerance
Uklassifiserte 1 mg – 500 kg 1/1000 – 1/10000 of nominal mass

The division into accuracy classes is based on OIML R 111-1, Weights of classes E1, F1, F2, M1, M1-2, M2, M2-3 and M3. This recommendation contains a tolerance table describing the maximum permissible error (± deviation from the nominal value) that weights may have. The recommendation also provides other useful information on weights.

Unclassified weights

Unclassified weights include weights that are either not classified or classified according to a standard other than OIML R 111-1. When calibrating unclassified weights, the condition of the weights is assessed in relation to the usefulness of calibration and the customer’s needs. The Norwegian Metrology Service reserves the right to refuse calibration assignments for weights that are in poor condition or deemed unsuitable for calibration.
