Volume measures

We calibrate volume measures from 0.01 to over 6000 litres, either gravimetrically (by weighing water) or volumetrically (by transferring water from a more accurate standard). Gravimetric calibration provides lower uncertainty than volumetric calibration. If the volume measure itself is well constructed, we can achieve the following uncertainties:

0.1–5 litres: 0.03–0.05%

5–500 litres: 0.006%

500–5000 litres: 0.02%

Volumetric calibration can only be performed for measures with volumes that are multiples of 0.5, 5, 20 or 100 litres. This method is less costly but yields higher uncertainty.

Volume measures that have been used for liquids other than water must be thoroughly cleaned before shipment. If they are not, we must wash them prior to calibration, and the time spent will be charged accordingly.

By agreement, the Norwegian Metrology Service can carry out minor repairs – typically replacement of sight glasses, bottom valves, etc. – on volume measures. Such work is only performed by prior arrangement with the customer and is invoiced at the standard hourly rate.
