All measuring instruments used for financial settlement in trade and industry – for example, scales, fuel dispensers, and water meters – are subject to supervision.
The Norwegian Metrology Service supervises fish landing facilities to ensure that measurements related to the reception and trade of fish are correct. This supervision helps build trust in measurements within the industry, in relation to external stakeholders, and in international contexts.
The supervision reveals a relatively high proportion of errors in measurements at landing facilities – both unintentional and, on some occasions, intentional. This has created the need for more inspections and thus higher overall costs for supervision of the industry in recent years. Supervision by the Norwegian Metrology Service is cost-intensive due to travel, expensive equipment and, at times, the need for several inspectors at each inspection. For operators where the risk is considered high, inspections may need to be carried out several times a year at each landing facility.
If you have established a company, the Norwegian Metrology Service requires information about this. Please contact us.
The Norwegian Metrology Service offers on-request verification as one of our services. As a neutral third party, we can carry out verification and in-use inspections and issue documentation. We have the equipment and expertise to help your enterprise meet the requirements for measurements.
To ensure correct settlement between the fisher and the buyer, in line with regulations and requirements from the fisheries authorities.
