Privacy policy

This privacy statement contains information about how the Norwegian Metrology Service (Justervesenet) collects and uses personal data, and how we process personal data when you visit Justervesenet.no and dinside.justervesenet.no

1. What are personal data?

Personal data: The key factor in determining whether information is personal data is whether the information can identify a specific person. Personal data includes both information that is clearly personal, such as name, phone number, national ID number, and address, as well as documents, reports, or assessments concerning employees or individuals at companies we supervise or perform services for, or others. The same applies to the content of email communications or photos of employees, individuals, or businesses we supervise or others. In addition, logs of activity in IT systems are also considered personal data.

2. What is the processing of personal data?

Processing of personal data means any use of personal data. This includes collecting, registering, storing, compiling, transferring, disclosing to others, and publishing the data. In other words, “processing” covers everything we, the Norwegian Metrology Service, do with an individual’s personal data.

3. Why do we process your personal data?

The Norwegian Metrology Service depends on access to personal data to perform its duties. We only collect the data necessary to carry out our tasks. This data is used solely for the purposes for which it was collected, unless we have a legal basis for using it for other purposes.

4. Who is the data controller at the Norwegian Metrology Service?

The data controller is the person who determines the purpose of processing personal data and the means used. The Norwegian Metrology Service, represented by Director Geir Samuelsen, is the data controller for all processing of personal data at our organization. The responsibility for following up this role has been delegated to several people within the organization. The delegation only covers tasks, not the responsibility itself.

The Norwegian Metrology Service uses external suppliers to process data in connection with performing our duties. These suppliers act as data processors on behalf of the Norwegian Metrology Service. When we use a data processor, we ensure that all information and data for which we are responsible are processed according to our requirements through data processing agreements and risk assessments of the services delivered to us.

5. What is the legal basis for processing your data?

For the Norwegian Metrology Service to process your personal data, we must have a legal basis. This basis may be authorization in law or regulation, or a voluntary, explicit, and informed consent from the individual whose data is being processed.

6. What personal data do we process?

The Norwegian Metrology Service processes the data necessary to perform the tasks mentioned in section 2. The specific data we collect and use depends on the task to be performed.

7. Where do we collect the data from?

The Norwegian Metrology Service normally collects contact information from businesses that use measuring instruments, from suppliers of measuring instruments, from information provided during inspections, when registering measuring instruments, when ordering services, or when reporting online sales related to the issuance of annual fees. We may also obtain contact information from the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises. Additionally, we may collect information from publicly available sources such as websites and social media.

We also receive personal data and records from others. Examples include membership lists from trade unions, information from NAV (the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration), or directly from individuals contacting the Norwegian Metrology Service. Even if we do not collect the data ourselves, we process it as if we had.

8. How do we protect your data?

Personal data shall not be stored longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Unless the data must be preserved under the Archives Act or other legislation, it is deleted after use. Personal data is processed in several IT systems, all of which are subject to strict information security requirements and risk assessments. All access to these systems is controlled, and activity is logged.

9. Who has access to your data?

Employees at the Norwegian Metrology Service have access to personal data depending on the tasks they need to perform. Only employees who need to work with your data shall have access to it.

10. Who do we disclose your data to?

Disclosure or export of data is defined as any sharing of data, except to our own systems/processing or to the registered person themselves or someone receiving data on their behalf. The Norwegian Metrology Service publishes a journal online and provides information from other systems. These data may contain personal information, such as the name of a requester or contact person.

11. Your rights

Access: Everyone has the right to general information about how the Norwegian Metrology Service processes personal data. In addition, any person whose personal data we have registered has the right to know which personal data we have registered about them and how this data is processed. Correction and deletion: If your data is incorrect, you may request that it be changed, corrected, or deleted in accordance with the Personal Data Act. In addition to these rights, any person whose personal data is registered with the Norwegian Metrology Service may request restrictions on processing or object to the processing. Requests must be answered free of charge and within 30 days.
