About the Norwegian Metrology Service
The Norwegian Metrology Service (Justervesenet) is a directorate for metrology under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. We are responsible for ensuring that Norway has a metrological infrastructure that ensures both national and international confidence. We provide expertise in quality assurance and are a centre of competence in metrology for industry and governal authorities.
Our work contributes to fair trade, accurate measurements and public trust. We ensure that consumers, businesses and authorities can rely on measurements that are correct and in accordance with national and international standards.
With a history dating back to 1832, we play a key role in ensuring the quality and precision of the measurements that keep society running.

Our values
The Norwegian Metrology Service works to ensure precise and reliable measurements that society can trust. Our activities are built on three core values:
- Competent – The trust we all place in measurements depends on the Norwegian Metrology Service’s competence and ability to meet the societys metrological needs. We employ highly skilled professionals who seek new solutions and to improve one another by sharing knowledge and information.
- Innovative – We are an essential part of the national quality infrastructure. The results of our work benefit society through new services and efficient forms of supervision. Our experts meet these challenges with curiosity and a desire to learn.
- Helpful – We are approachable and attentive in our contact with users, customers and partners – a reliable ally in quality assurance work. After interacting with us, people should feel better equipped to comply with regulations or solve a metrological challenge. We are also helpful towards one another and contribute to a positive organisational culture.
