Temperature is a fundamental physical quantity that affects everything from industry and research to everyday measurements. The Norwegian Metrology Service is responsible for ensuring accurate and traceable temperature measurements in Norway.
We maintain national temperature standards and calibrate thermometers used in healthcare, the food industry and environmental monitoring. These measurements are linked to the international temperature scale ITS-90 and based on the physical definition of the kelvin – which today is anchored in a constant of nature, Boltzmann’s constant.
The Norwegian Metrology Service develops advanced measuring equipment and methods for high precision, covering extremely low to very high temperatures. This ensures that Norwegian measurements meet international standards and can be compared globally.
We also offer calibration services and technical support to laboratories and enterprises throughout the country and participate in international cooperation to further develop temperature metrology.
