Examination of instruments

Through calibration, the accuracy of an instrument is assessed. Calibration is performed under certain reference conditions to provide results with the lowest possible measurement uncertainty.

Knowing the instrument’s properties under reference conditions only covers part of a user’s needs. Since instruments are often used under varying conditions, it is also necessary to understand their properties in actual use situations. This knowledge, particularly where accurate measurements are critical, may go beyond the information provided by the supplier.

The National Laboratory offers investigations of an instrument’s sensitivity, for example to temperature or humidity.

We adapt to your needs

The Norwegian Metrology Service also wishes to contribute with knowledge transfer in various areas related to measurement. This may concern specific “metrological challenges” or more general competence needs related to metrological assessments. We welcome input on needs for calibration services and training.
