Justervesenet as notified body

As a Notified Body, the Norwegian Metrology Service (Justervesenet) performs conformity assessment and certification of measuring instruments in accordance with national and international standards. This is a requirement for many instruments before they can be put into use or offered for sale on the market. A conformity assessment from Justervesenet must be accepted throughout the EEA area.

What is a Notified Body?

Justervesenet is designated as a Notified Body (NB) under the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) and the Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Directive (NAWID). This means we are authorized to perform conformity assessments and certifications for measuring instruments before they are placed on the market or put into use.

As a Notified Body, we ensure that measuring instruments comply with EU regulations, allowing them to be legally used and sold across the EEA (European Economic Area). This is essential for manufacturers and suppliers aiming to introduce their products to the European market.

Who Needs a Conformity Assessment from Justervesenet?

A conformity assessment is required for manufacturers and suppliers seeking EU approval for their measuring instruments, including:

  • Manufacturers of weighing and measuring instruments (e.g., industrial scales, fuel dispensers, water meters).
  • Importers distributing measuring instruments within the EEA.
  • Companies developing customized measuring instruments that require approval under EU regulations.
