Legal Metrology

Justervesenet has the national responsibility for legal metrology. In addition to the main locality at Kjeller there are verification offices in Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø. Together they cover the whole country.

There is national regulation for measuring instruments used in trade, for calculations of governmental fees and taxes as well as in the area of health, environment and legal protection. The main instrument groups are for weighing, volume and flow measurements and electricity meters.

The verification of volume and flow in high capacity measuring instruments is done efficiently with two custom designed measuring trucks of Justervesenet.

Some types of instruments not beeing a part of the NAWI or MID directives, are covered by Norwegian regulation and type approved by Justervesenet. Justervesenet approves manufacturers to mark their pre-packed products with “e” according to the directives 76/211/EEC and 75/106/EEC. For details see here.
